The only information collected without any consent of the visitor are the web logs on our website's server. These logs contain the domain (isp name) and TCP/IP address of the visitor, but no personally identifiable information (in most cases, see below), and this information is collected automatically by all web hosting services as a matter of routine. In some cases, if you submit a form on this site we also store this information in our database for the purposes of detecting and preventing malicious misuse of the website. These addresses can only be tied back to an individual if:
1) you have a static IP address (almost all web users have dynamic IP addresses)
-or-
2) a legal order of some nature is issued requiring your ISP to research their logs and disclose this information.
We will collect no personally identifiable information whatsoever without your consent except as described in the above paragraph. If you fill in a form with personal information (name, address, phone, email address, etc.) the data will be kept in a "cookie" on YOUR computer unless you either:
-sign up to receive 'news' type emails from our website
-or-
-submit an order for one of our products
-or-
specifically request to have your address information retained in our database.
If you sign up for email news we will retain your email address, name, and, if you provide it, phone and physical address until such time as you opt out of our email news program. If you place an order we will retain your name, email address, phone number, billing address, shipping address, and the list of items ordered. If you charge an order to your credit card (once we are capable of accepting credit card orders) your credit card number will be securely retained only until your account has been successfully charged. Under no circumstances will we place any cookies for the purposes of tracking any of your web usage or for any reason outside those listed earlier in this paragraph.
Note that information other than the provided credit card number or bank account number (if and when these options become available) is sent over an unencrypted connection and thus may be available to 3rd parties via wiretaps, etc. should they be 'listening in' on the connection from your computer to our website or between our web server and our business computer. Specific financial information such as credit card/account information will be communicated only via secure (encrypted) connections.
Personal information collected by us will be used only for the intended purpose (i.e. email news or order fulfullment) and will under no circumstances be shared with any outside parties at any time unless we are for some reason required to do so by law. If this business is at some future date sold or transferred any customer information will be transferred to the new owner if and only if they agree to the privacy policy stated herein or one substantially equivalent in all respects.
Your personal information will be stored on the computers of my web hosting provider, NTCNet, and thus will be in their possession, however they are legally bound to protect the data from outside disclosure by their action. Orders will be sent via delivery services (UPS, Fedex, etc.) and thus they will have access to name and address information. Otherwise only our own business will have access to that information. As sole developer and maintainer of this website I will take every precaution known to me and practical to my business to ensure that the information is kept secure and unavailable to casual access and protected from computer attacks.
Personal information collected by us will be disposed of as follows
-If the information is for the purposes of sending an email newsletter, within 30 days of you choosing to stop receiving the newsletter
-If the information is related to a product order, the information will be disposed of within 2 years of the last order you place, or within 30 days of the expiration of any legal requirement to maintain those records, whichever is longer.
We will not be held liable for accidental disclosures of information whether through wiretapping, computer attack, theft, or any other event beyond our reasonable means to control. This document describes the policy we follow and is not a binding contract or legal document in any way. The intent is to communicate our habits and dedication to protecting your privacy, which is as important to us as it is to you. This policy may change from time to time as conditions and laws dictate, the current policy will be that published on our public website, www.inanaturallight.com, at the time. I am pursuing implementing the P3P (Platform for Privacy Preferences Project of the World Wide Web Consortium) guidelines on this website at this time.
